Holiday!

Good morning!

It's amazing to see beautiful blue skies this morning! Well, what can I say about the weekend, Alconbury was a great little show, Sarah did it and did amazing.

I was super excited to go away for the weekend, I have never been to Bakewell, I kept telling my friends it felt like I was going on holiday as I have not been away to a show for a while. I was booked into a pub, just near Matlock. In my head I was going to enjoy a weekend in the peak district. I traveled up Friday afternoon, the sun was shining, the scenery was stunning as I got closer. I found the pub and checked in, they were lovely people, the place was a proper country pub and the rooms were clean and warm. The young lad asked if I was here for work, I said yes, he said he wishes he had a job where he can travel. I am very fortunate to get to travel with work, I don’t take it for granted. I had a couple of pints, dinner and then got my head down for an early start.

I arrived at the show just after 7 on the Saturday morning, it was located in the market square. What was in front of me was utter carnage, vans, cars and even lorries had just blocked the place, no one could move. I just put on some music, sat in the truck and waited, I don't get stressed at this, no point, I save my stress head for lots of other things! Finally I could get close and just carted my stock over to my market stall, which had been set up in such a way it was a challenge to get behind it. I simply dumped the stuff and went off to find the parking. Walking back I saw a bridge over a river which leads you into the town centre, it was covered with padlocks, I stopped and read some of them, there were plenty with the words ‘in memory of…’, it makes you think.

I finally got set up, got some breakfast and a coffee and was good to go. The weather was good on Saturday, but for some reason the show simply did not get going, not just for us but everyone was in the same boat. I got to see some familiar faces, traders who I don’t see that often so we had a good laugh and a catch up. Because it was in the town centre we had to pack up on the Saturday evening and set up again the following morning, by about 3pm I was thinking I won’t come back Sunday, no point, the weather forecast was rain all day, Sunday’s are always worse than Saturday’s nad Saturday had been poor. So if I am packing up anyway I might as well just go home. By the time the show had finished, I chatted to my friends and decided I would come back on Sunday, as I wrote earlier, I was on Holiday! In my head I had written the show off so anything I take would be a bonus.

So Sunday morning, here we go again, it seems that lots of people decided not to come back so getting on and unloaded was very quick, apart from it was pouring down with rain, I turned round and saw about 4 ducks walking through the market square enjoying the puddles, it made me laugh, some bloody holiday this is!

Anyway yesterday was expected, it did dry up in the afternoon and by the time I got the truck loaded and started heading back the sun was out so I enjoyed the journey home with sunglasses on! Bloody typical…but that's all part of the show scene.

I waffled on enough, got to unload the truck before the morning meeting as we have loads to do.

Then we can start looking ahead to this weekend shows but right now I am not even thinking about that

Catch you later

Ant x
