Mountain to climb

Good morning…

Here we go again, just grinding it out, chipping away making small steps of progress. That's exactly what it feels like. At times you feel like you are not getting anywhere, it's an impossible mountain to climb, but you have got to climb it. What's the alternative…

We have decided to put on a taster night at our Well’s cafe Friday 29th March, we can seat 18 people so it will be a smaller talk but these are usually more intimate and I get to spend more time with everyone. The larger talks are amazing but they are more challenging when it comes to speaking to everyone. I woke up this morning to a message from someone ordering tickets, what an amazing start to the day and gave me a big lift. You put these things out there and the biggest fear is no one is interested in coming, but I don’t let this stop me doing it, or having a go, the same as when we launched the refill pouches, no one bought one, but now they are chipping away nicely. So we now have 14 tickets left for the 29th. If you are near Well’s at this time and would like to join us for a fun evening, just message us and we will sort out the tickets for you.

If you followed what we were up to yesterday, you would have seen the randomness that came from our morning meeting. Gema simply asked, what would happen if you distilled some cream in alcohol, would the flavour of the cream come out in the spirit. I had absolutely no idea, that was my response, let's have a go, this quickly evolved into how about marshmallows, what would happen if we distilled marshmallows, and then finally condensed milk. So a quick trip to Asda (other supermarkets sell them, but Asda is the closest!) and we were about to find out.

We popped on live to let people know what we were up to, it was great fun, lots of people were on it and coming up with random things to try.

We put the three little stills on, then you simply have to wait. The spirit that comes off comes off at around 79% abv so we cut it back with water to 30% abv to have a taste. We lined them up, and tasted the marshmallow one first. It smelt like alcohol, and guess what, it tasted just like plain alcohol and nothing else. We laughed, well that didn’t work…then went onto tasting the single cream, guess what, again tasted like plain alcohol, finally the third one, condensed milk, we thought this would be the one, nope nothing, to be fair it had a different feel in your mouth than the others, but tasted of bugger all. We had a really good laugh, it was a fun experiment to find out, plus the shed then smelt like warmed up milk.

Lets see what comes from today's meeting…Thank you to everyone who suggested trying different random things, I am sure we will have a go at some of them.

We had a group of 8 message us yesterday to come to the cafe at midday, it turns out they are a group that like to meet up and they were a lovely bunch, and they left very happy saying they have found a little gem and will be back. This was great to hear, we have a meeting this morning with someone who runs a group and they are interested in using the cafe for their meet ups too.

So as I wrote at the start this morning, yes it feels like there is a constant mountain to climb, but these small steps of progress keep you going up it.

Right off to a meeting..

Catch you later

Ant x
