Perfection???

Good morning

Tuesday has soon come around, I sat here and thought about two topics, perfection or competition, but today chose perfection. I'll talk about my views on competition next week.

I have never hid the fact that I can experience mental health issues, but this is something I work on daily. Many years ago I heard a song that really struck a chord with me at a difficult time in my life, it was the oasis song, little by little and the line was ‘true perfection has to be imperfect’. This is a song that I put on when not in a good place and always hits home. 

We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect, but this is impossible, this just brings extreme pressure which is actually achievable and means we are never going to be happy. 

When it comes to work, if we waited for things to be perfect we would end up spending all our time tweaking and adjusting things that they would never end up going out the door. It doesn’t mean we don’t do our best, we do, we try really bloody hard to get things right and constantly try and improve things but aiming for perfection, that's only going to stop us achieving our goals.

I often speak with people who come up to me and say I’d really like to have a go at this or that, it could be starting a business or learning something new and I always say have a go, it will be ok, just have a go. You will learn so much by having a go, it won't always be fun, you will have moments when you think what on earth am I doing? But you will learn so much and what's the worst that can happen? 

There are a few people that I help behind the scenes on their journeys of setting up a business and they are doing amazing things, not because of me, all I did was give them some confidence to make a start, they have then gone on to flourish through their own hard work, dedication and commitment. I am very proud of them.

So if you are reading this and want to have a go at something, have a go, remember it doesn’t have to be perfect, just make a start, do your best and learn as you go, you never know what will happen and what journey it will take you on. That's exactly what I am doing, having a go and if just a man in a shed can, so can you.
