Tables and Chairs!

Good morning!

I'm getting deja vu here, it's Tuesday already, these bank holidays really mess me up. Mainly because I enjoy structure and routine, even though you wouldn't think that if you saw how I operate, here, there and everywhere, leaving a trail of destruction behind me.

As I only just found out it's Tuesday I had no idea what to write about, so have decided to write about Friday night's taster night and what it meant for me.

If you have previously read here you will know how it came about, now to say I wing things is probably an understatement, but somewhere in this crazy head of mine I think I know my limit, even though I do seem to push it regularly.

So Friday morning came, and I went through what needed to be done, I was in charge of tables and chairs, one issue, I didn’t have any. I know someone who does have some chairs and they kindly lent me some so that was sorted, I didn’t have any tables. Then it came to me that we had apple boxes in the shop, in my head, sorted. It simply didn’t occur to me whether or not they would be ok or how they would look. They would be practical.

We got to the shop at 5pm to get sorted, and started playing around with the layout and before you know it, we have 16 chairs with tables and I thought it looked spot on. The proof is in the pudding though, what would the people who came think. As people came in and I greeted them I was keeping an eye on their reactions, not one person frowned or showed any form of ‘what on earth is this’ look on their faces.

We had planned the samples and how we were going to do it so that bit was taken care of.

When everyone arrives it's only then some nerves kick in, bloody hell, I best start talking. So I did, I had a rough idea of the format but then off I went into random ramblings and having a laugh with people.

They were a great bunch of people, you could see in the first 10 minutes they are like blimey, this is different and as the drinks flowed and the laughter and questions increased they were really getting into it. I had to have a break halfway through because time was going too quick, they appreciated that and then off we went again. Towards the end we decided to open up the cheese and chutney samples and it became like a part in a shop. It was bloody great fun. The feedback and compliments at the end left me buzzing.

I cannot put into words the feeling I get from something like this, creating something new, having the balls and some say stupidity to try it, with very little fear and then seeing everyone leave at the end of the night super happy. Yes there was money involved, but the feeling I had would have been the same even if no one purchased anything. The fact they did, is simply a bonus. Whether people choose to believe that, that's up to them.

We will be doing more, it wasn't perfect so will be tweaked and evolved, but that's how things go.

It was a long day, 6am start and I got home at 10.30pm but totally worth it. Even getting up at 5am the next morning to go and sort the carnage out was not a problem. Saturday afternoon sleeping on the sofa sorted the job out.

What's even better, we have another one tonight! A private group who have booked in.

Got a super busy day before that, so best get on with it.
