Tenacity

Good morning, and yes it  is a good morning!

Thank you for the responses to yesterday's blog, we find it really interesting how this journey resonates with people. The highs and the lows, the speedbumps in the road that come out of nowhere. It's how you deal with them that matters. How you approach them is everything.

Yesterday we wrote that after the high of selling the Whisky, which has been packed off and sent out so you will be receiving them shortly. We then encountered some speed bumps, as was expected. It doesn’t really matter what these were, we knew they would come and we had a few options when they did

Option 1

A typical response ‘ For F’s sack, rant, shout, kick things and rant some more’

Option 2

Take a step back, think about it and then work out the best way of dealing with the job at hand

Option 3

Get out the bucket of sand, shove our head in it and hope the problem goes away

Option 4

Just walk away, park it for a day, rest or do something fun and deal with it another day

Here are our views on these options

Option 1

At the time it feels good to let off some steam, however it usually has an overall negative impact not only on the problem at hand but also on the environment around you, whether that be the people in the room, the phone thats been smashed. We did this at the start of the pandemic, there is a picture of the landline phone smashed and thrown outside, was quite funny after but then had to buy a new phone.

Option 2

This is the rational approach when emotions can be controlled and usually has the most efficient outcome, however its very easy to say, or write but depending on the size of the speedbump not always easy to do.

Option 3

We highly recommend always carrying a bucket of sand around with you, by far the easiest choice and it is super peaceful with your head in that bucket of sand. Only problem is its not that easy to breathe in sand, sand gets everywhere and when you finally have to come up for air the speed bump has grown in size!

Option 4

Sometimes with everything going on you are best walking away, if the issue is not urgent then taking some time out, doing something different, something enjoyable and good for you can then leave you far better equipped to get over that hump.

In all honesty, we probably did a combination of Option 2 and 4. We took a step back and thought about what needed to be done immediately and then the bigger bumps in the road parked for the day. This has then meant that this morning we are prepared to get over them today and we will.

We have to say, it was far easier because we were prepared, we knew they would come, only minor things, but after a high these minor things add up and can leave you feeling very flat. Because of writing this each day and seeing the patterns we actually relished the opportunity to test ourselves to see which option we would take. It's still very much work in progress but it's a start.

This is why todays title is Tenacity..its a word we sometimes hear thrown around but it popped up on Instagram yesterday evening with this definition

Never giving up

Never stop trying

Do whatever it takes to achieve your goal

Have a good day!

Positive part - We have added Tenacity to our limited vocabulary!!
